Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure to remove excess skin or fat from the eyelids, improving the appearance of hooded or drooping eyelids and eye bags. It can also improve vision if excess skin is obstructing sight. The procedure can be performed on the upper or lower eyelids, or both.

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that helps to remove the fatigued and tired look around the eyes, which is common to ageing.
Eyelid surgery typically takes between one and three hours to complete and can be performed under local anaesthetic.
The best candidate for eyelid surgery is someone who is looking to remove excess skin or puffy bags from around the eyes.
The skin around your eyes can become stretched as you age due to the muscles surrounding them becoming weaker. This may lead to vision or health problems.
Upper blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin, muscle, and sometimes fat from the upper eyelids. It's one of the most common cosmetic surgeries, often done for both aesthetic and functional reasons.
It can treat
Sagging or droopy upper eyelid skin
Hooded eyes that obscure the natural crease or cause vision issues
Fat bulges in the upper eyelids
Tired or aged appearance of the eyes
Browpexy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to lift and stabilise the eyebrow, particularly the lateral (outer) portion, to create a more youthful and alert appearance. It is often done through the same incision used for upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) or through small incisions hidden in the brow or forehead.

Who Is a Good Candidate?
In summary:
Browpexy is a subtle, effective way to lift the brow—often done during eyelid surgery—to improve eyelid contour and brow position without the need for a more extensive brow lift.
Lower blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the lower eyelids. It addresses issues such as under-eye bags, puffiness, loose or sagging skin, and wrinkles. This procedure can treat:
Puffy bags under the eyes (caused by fat herniation or fluid retention)
Excess skin that causes wrinkles or disrupts the natural contour
Dark circles, sometimes (depending on cause)
Drooping lower eyelids that may expose more of the eye.
Lower Blepharoplasty with Canthopexy
Canthopexy is a cosmetic or reconstructive surgical procedure used to tighten and stabilize the lateral canthus — the outer corner of the eye where the upper and lower eyelids meet. At the Pinewoods Clinic this is usually combined with lower blepharoplasty.

Whilst it will vary from patient to patient you can generally expect upper eyelid surgery to last 5 to 7 years and lower eyelid is essentially permanent.
It is common after eyelid surgery to suffer from some side effects, these include:
– Puffy eyes and numbness
– Itching and sore eyes
– Temporary bruising
These should subside after a couple of weeks, however, if they remain, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
There is no age restriction on eyelid surgery. We assess each patient to discuss the impacts and improvements it will have for them.
