Mr Houghton is a dual qualified Maxillofacial Consultant having graduated from the Universities of Leeds and York in Dentistry and Medicine respectively. He underwent basic surgical training in General Surgery, Neurosurgery and Ear Nose and Throat before specialising in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery having ranked first place in the UK national recruitment process. Mr Houghton subsequently trained at the internationally recognised maxillofacial units of the Liverpool Head and Neck Centre (Aintree University Hospital) and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital whilst developing his sub-specialty interests in skin cancer, post-traumatic facial deformity and facial plastic surgery.
He has undergone further training in Rhinoplasty, Orthognathic and Facial Plastic Surgery in both the UK and Europe. In April 2021 he was awarded a Fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons in the speciality of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery.Mr Houghton has also undertaken post graduate training in medical education and teaching and remains enthusiastically involved in the training of junior colleagues and allied health professionals, as well as in admissions process for University of Liverpool Medical School and national recruitment for the Surgical Deanery in the Northwest.
